Artist Statements

Artist Statement

My art explores the relationship between movement and stillness. As a dancer, I’ve spent most of my life understanding how emotion lives in motion—the curve of an arm, the tension of a pause, the rhythm between beats. In my mixed-media paintings, I try to capture those same sensations: the unseen energy that connects motion to emotion.

Each piece starts from a memory of dance—a sequence, a shape, or even a feeling—and translates that into line, color, and texture. I’m fascinated by how art can freeze movement but still feel alive, how fabric can flow like choreography, and how design can tell stories through form. I aim to continue blending fine art and fashion, exploring how visual rhythm and physical expression can inspire one another.

Biography

Giada D'Alerta is an artist who bridges fine art, movement, and design. With a lifelong background in dance training and competing since age three, Giada brings rhythm, emotion, and physical awareness into her visual art practice. She is currently pursuing a BFA at the University of Miami, begun in Fall 2026, and continues to explore how gesture, form, and texture can communicate the same energy found in choreography. Giada's work reflects a balance of discipline and expression, shaped by years of artistic training and a deep curiosity for how visual storytelling evolves through body and material.

“Suiting Up” – Soft Pastels on Paper Featured in Gulliver Preparatory’s Reflections Literary & Arts Magazine Giada D’Alerta’s soft pastel piece was selected to accompany Tristan Duncan’s poem “Suiting Up. " It captures the serene anticipation of a surfer preparing to enter the ocean. The artwork mirrors the poem’s themes of courage, ritual, and calm before motion, portraying a quiet shoreline at sunset and a pair of well-worn sneakers resting in the sand. The soft textures and muted palette evoke warmth, reflection, and the fleeting stillness before taking the leap.
